LAUREN'S TOP FIVE TIPS FOR CREATING YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY IN 2021
So you want to jump into the ever-changing world of social media? There are a few important things you need to get clear about in order to create a strong foundation. Let's start with the 'who, what, where, when and why' of your social media strategy.
1. Who is your content geared towards? Are you in the area of business to business, business to client or perhaps a non-profit creating content for the local community.
2. What type of content would you like to share and what tone are you looking to portray? Maybe you want to bring the personality of your staff and the energy of your team to your page or perhaps you're looking to be a little more serious and raise awareness around a certain issue or topic. Also keep in mind the medium of content you want to share - if you don't like making videos, then it might be a good idea to stay away from Youtube.
3. Where do you need to be posting? Knowing your audience is the key to knowing where you need to show up for them. Are you looking to reach 20-something's - then Instagram is the way to go! If you'd like to reach the 30+ group then Facebook is a better option.
4. When should you be posting and how often? Don't panic - you don't need to know this right away, but keep it in mind during your first 90 days. The most important thing for you to be able to answer these questions is to ensure you're posting consistently and often (at least 3x a week). Also think about dates and seasons that are important to your business. If you run a greenhouse, you probably want to amp up your social activity shortly before spring!
5. Why did you decide to get social? What do you want to get out of your social media? Like any other business, having clear goals and a strong 'why' is extremely important. Are you looking to network with other businesses, share valuable information with your followers, or raise awareness and gain donations? These are all things you will want to clear up before you go show up on social media.
